Kat is a young adult author from North Wales. You’ll usually find her up to no good on Twitter, sneaking around cemeteries taking photographs, or watching scary films with her husband. Kat’s first ever literary success came when she wrote a short story in high school deemed too disturbing to be read to the audience at the awards presentation. (It still won first prize.)
Kat’s love of science fiction began when she was a teenager, staying up way too late reading the Red Dwarf novels and going to school with bleary eyes. She especially loves sci-fi with a dash of humour and romance, and her favourite sci-fi movie of all time is Galaxy Quest.
Her debut, Blackfin Sky, was a Junior Library Guild Selection and a YALSA Popular Paperbacks Pick in the category of Murder, Mystery and Mayhem.
Purge: Mason has a habit of getting into trouble. He’s been kicked out of every place he’s ever lived in. Moving to the cult-like community of Alteria is definitely a last resort, even if it’s better than braving the wastelands outside. But following their strict rules is a hundred times harder when Mason meets Eden, who has a wicked streak to match his own. When Eden is caught with contraband, she s forced into a virtual reality programme to purge her bad behaviour. But Mason has seen what happens to people who go in and he knows Eden will never be the same. He’ll lose her forever unless he follows her into the programme – where he will have no memory of himself, or how to escape. Failure isn’t an option when it means being purged from existence.
Breaker: Kyle Henry has a new name, a new school, and a new life–one without the shadow of the Bonebreaker hanging over him. It’s been a year since his serial killer father’s execution, and it finally looks like things are turning around for Kyle. Until he recognizes the girl sitting in the back row in homeroom. Naomi Steadman is immediately intrigued by Killdeer Academy’s newcomer. She does not know he is the son of the man who murdered her mother. What she does know is she and Kyle have a connection with each other–and a spark that Kyle continues to back away from. Soon after Kyle’s arrival, the death count on campus starts to rise. Someone is set on finishing what the Bonebreaker started, and murdering ghosts from the past may be the only thing that can stop the spree.
Blackfin Sky: When Sky falls from Blackfin Pier and drowns on her sixteenth birthday, the whole town goes into mourning – until she shows up three months later like nothing happened. Unravelling the mystery of those missing months takes Sky to the burned-out circus in the woods, where whispers of murder and kidnapping begin to reveal the town’s secrets. But Sky’s not the only one digging up the past – the old mime from the circus knows what happened to her, and he has more than one reason for keeping quiet about it.
