YA Shot Schools Day – Postponed

Due to unforeseen circumstances at Hillingdon Council, the YA Shot Schools Day has had to be postponed. Further details to follow.

As well as the Saturday festival, this year YA Shot will offer a day of free outreach events for local schools on Friday 21st October 2016 in the the ‘Hillingdon’ Civic Centre in Uxbridge (London). We are delighted to announce our fabulous inaugural year line-up – AJ Grainger, Lucy Saxon and Lisa Williamson!

With such an amazing start, we hope our Schools Day will continue to be part of YA Shot every year. The Schools Day is for schools only: it is not open to the public. It is funded by Hillingdon Council and ensures that YA Shot always benefits local young people, as well as those around the country through the Libraries-Schools Programme. Hillingdon is a vibrant and wonderfully diverse area of London where more than 80 languages are spoken, but it is also an area with high economic deprivation: over 17% of households have an income under £15K. We feel it is only right that as Hillingdon is so generous to YA Shot as our ‘home base’, we give something back in recognition of the significant need in the area for opportunities to aspire and learn.

The Schools Day Programme 2016 will include two hour-long events in the morning, followed by books sales and signings with Year 7-9 pupils, and a further session in the afternoon for Year 10-11 pupils. Up to 120 students will be able to participate in each event. All the events will be run by Hillingdon Borough Libraries. Please contact Uxbridge Library for further details if your school is interested.
